Tooth Color Matching: New Technology Perfects It
Dr. Milnar has an artist's eye when it comes to restoring and transforming his patients' smiles. Yet, the human eye has limitations. Under stress or with too much or not enough light the eye can see colors differently. Because everyone can see color, differently determining reality can be problematic.
Technology has finally solved this problem. Actually, color-matching technology has been around for a couple of years. However, someone had to make the connection between dentistry and this technology's first application: car paint matching. X-Rite, a world-leader in color measurement, connected the dots and developed the ShadeVision System for dentistry. Their hand-held device captures the hue, value and chroma of the tooth being measured with exacting consistency and accuracy.
Dr. Milnar was recently invited, along with 24 other dental opinion leaders, to a conference to discuss the future and application of this brand new technology. Porcelains, various bonding materials and each person's natural teeth have different optical properties and variances. This makes color matching very complicated. ShadeVision brings a fabulous technology to the art of smile enhancement dentistry. "This is light years ahead of current methods," explains Dr. Milnar. "We are excited to be the first practice in the area to use this exciting technology - later this summer. This is a pioneering event in shade matching!"
